Technology users are generally hesitant to bring their computers to repair specialist. The risk of losing information is very high but small businesses owners try to fix it themselves. Boston area small business tech support expert Craig Raubenheimer talks about the importance of cloud integration and disaster recovery. Check out a quote from him below.

“I think the reason why people are afraid to pick up the phone is I think it all develops and all comes down to the ability to trust a partner.  I think that takes awhile, it takes time for people to make it change and obviously there’s a lot of unknown and uncertainty. There’s a lot of IT providers out there. There’s a lot of providers that are providing good support and there’s equally a lot of providers that aren’t providing very good support either. I think it’s a fear of a number of different things.  A fear of how much is this going to cost?  Something new, a professional company’s going to cost me a lot of money.  How do I know these people are going to be able to really understand me and my business?  I figure that’s probably part of the reason that we find that a lot – people need to understand that there are many different ways to solve a problem.  We are, we’ve been around for over 12 years, and we’ve turned down business because we’ve concluded that it doesn’t make sense for us to – it’s not a good fit. At the same time, we’ve developed trust and relationships that have spanned over 14 years, before the company was actually incorporated. I think it’s reluctant because I think that a lot of people think that IT is just something that is more of a cost than it is a business enabler.  I think there’s a big perception of that in the industry. Unfortunately the reality is that IT can be a massive boost to anyone’s business.  If they’re getting the information when they need it, where they need it and it’s reliable and it’s secured, etc and that people are able to be as a bottom line there’s productivity. We always go down to the number one factor of how productive are your employees and yourself? How productive are you? Can you be more productive?”

If you are a Boston area small business owner, do you feel hesitant to bring tech support issues to a professional? Have you experienced disaster issues that you yourself could not fix? Would the money you spend on an IT expert be justified by the lack of downtime your business would see?
