It is one of the first times a European company is using a cloud computing set up to this extent, however the cloud has been going strong in America for quite some time now! Not only will this be a move that maximizes efficiency for Tat, but it is also rumored that the will end up saving money on their IT costs.
Tata Steel is migrating its two existing European email systems to a new cloud-computing based platform based on the Microsoft Office 365 productivity suite.
The project is one of the first large-scale enterprise implementations of Office 365 in Europe. Tata, the second-largest steel producer on the continent with primary operations in the UK and Holland, is aiming to cut costs with the project and improve collaboration across its workforce.
Microsoft and outsourcer Capgemini will work on the migration and on integrating the new productivity suite with other back-office and production systems.
Tata will also be using Microsoft Exchange Online, unified communications platform Microsoft Lync Online, and online archiving and encryption as part of the project.
Shreekant Mokashi, chief group information services at Tata Steel, said: “This move to an enterprise-ready cloud communications platform will be a significant contributor to our plans to reduce our overall IT operating costs.”
