Here at Roan Solutions, we recently read an article that talks about how H-1B workers are actually causing more destruction to the labor force than the help they are providing. We liked this article because it pertains to people that are interested in the consulting industry. Roan Solutions is an IT Consulting Business and it is most definitely affected by H-1B workers.

For those who don’t know what an H-1B is, it is a visa for a person that has met certain standards required for labor in the U.S. In simpler terms, it is a special way to get the most smart foreigners into our country. One problem that a lot of people have with this bill is that there are enough highly trained workers already in the U.S. and that if people were to come here with equal or higher qualifications, the original American workers would be replaced. This has happened before and led to several lawsuits.

Eighteen IT workers in California have filed a lawsuit against their former employer claiming they were replaced by H-1B workers from India and then laid off in violation of the state’s anti-discrimination laws.

In the lawsuit, the 18 workers say that IT managers at Molina Healthcare Inc. (MOH) increasingly catered to the Indian workers while leaving U.S. workers, mostly security analysts and programmers who earned at least $75,000 a year, feeling excluded prior getting laid off last year.

This instance is a prime example as to why it is a bad idea to let H-1B workers continue on. The argument against the bill is that original American workers are being replaced. But what about the good side to it?

With statistics showing that around 50% of the American population is either below or working at minimum wage, there is little room for people to be unemployed.

So then why doesn’t the law just let anyone who wants to come to the country do so? This is where the H-1B bill comes into play. If around 50% of the population wouldn’t be able to do these jobs that require higher qualifications, its possible there is more workers needed in order to help the economy grow.

We are trying to stay as updated as possible with all the H-1B controversy that is taking place. Please, let us know what you think! As a small business owner, we are being affected by any bill that passes, especially ones having to do in our industry.
